This is not a good idea. In fact, you might want to rethink your squatting strategy. The amount of weight you can squat varies a lot. A common guideline is to squat as close to the bar as you can while still being able to use your legs to support and push off the bar.
In previous posts we’ve talked about the shoulder width smith machine. For those unfamiliar, the shoulder width machine is a machine which places a bar with a very low weight on your back. It is really just a squat machine. The bar is placed in a way that is very close to your shoulder, and you put your hands on either side of the bar to help support the weight. In other words, you use your shoulders to help support the weight you are squatting on.
The machine is very similar to a stair climber. You put your hands on either side of the bar, and you start to climb the bar up until you reach your hands, and then you start to climb again. The shoulder width machine is a bit different because it is a machine you use while you are squatting. Its purpose is to help you squat longer periods of time with fewer injuries. We don’t know if the shoulder width machine is similar or different to the stair climber.
