Strong biceps is when we’re afraid that we’ll just get caught up in the moment, so we’ll just be afraid to step back and look at things in new ways. I think it’s the other way around. If you’re afraid to look at something in new ways, it’s really just time to step back.
If you think about it, its pretty easy to get caught up in the moment. If youre running for your life and feeling the need to just get up and run, or if youre panicking as this very moment is going terribly wrong, its pretty easy to get swept up in the moment. Its really hard to think about things in new ways when youre freaking out about the very idea of running.
To me the challenge is to think about things in new ways. Youre not trying to get up and run. Youre not panicking. Its a bit of like taking a leap of faith.

The challenge to us working in advertising is to make it easier to make a leap of faith. We spend a lot of time trying to convince people of things that we know they don’t really believe. So our challenge is to get them to think in new ways. I think the hardest thing about advertising is that there is so much you don’t know. So if you are trying to make a leap of faith, you better have some idea of what you are doing.
This is where the challenge comes in. If we dont have a good idea of what we are doing, we wont be able to make the leap of faith. Its not that I think advertising is great, its more that I think if you dont know what you are doing, you wont make it.
Yeah, I know, that is a terrible analogy. So what I really like about advertising is that there is a lot you dont know that can help you. Not only can you get a great idea for an ad, you can get a great idea for an ad that will actually work.
Like the idea of putting a new product into circulation? For example, how many people know that you can buy a brand new set of eyeglasses for $120 dollars? Why don’t people just google that? Instead, they just buy it. It works great for marketing too. I think the next step for marketing is to do the same thing with the idea of your business, your product, or your services. Then people will just buy it.
Marketing is about building something that people are willing to pay for. Like the idea of a new set of eyeglasses. Not only is the concept appealing, but it shows that the person who came up with it already has a lot of trust in the company. This is great for establishing brand loyalty.
